2020 Top 100(ish)

Couldn’t narrow it down. Sorry y’all.

So here it freaking goes!! My very favorite 167 photos from the year. To preface this, I want y’all to know that I didn’t choose the prettiest 167 photos from the year, even though some of these are BEAUTIFUL! I went through every photo I took this year — professional + personal life, and these were the ones that made me feel something. The ones that scream a story and tell the truth.

A couple of years ago, I visited The Newseum in Washington D.C. (really cool museum about well, the news) and they had this exhibit that displayed all the Pulitzer Prize winning photos for all of time. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life and is quite honestly hard to put into words. There were so many questions and emotions and frustrations and joys in my heart as I left… and no one had said a single word. I guess that’s what I’m going for here, but less drama, ya know? A little more happy and a little less sad!

If you don’t make it all the way through this post, look… I get it. It’s long. No pressure. But personally, I know I’ll look back on this post even a year from now when I’ll feeling a little nostalgic and be thankful that all 167 photos are in here! So with all the universe’s “blog rules” thrown out the window, I give you, my 2020 Top 100(ish) photos. Hope it makes ya smile!

This first photo did not make the Top 100(ish) this year, although I did take it and feel it’s some of my best work.

Alright now that you remember what I look like, let’s get this party started lol.

Some favorites from my SWEET January weddings. Little prayer hands and flower girls watching their grandpa play guitar. I can hardly handle the cuteness, good grief. Also, I tried Shiner beer for the first time IN SHINER, TX at this wedding reception. Is that iconic or what. P.S. Top left photo? They’re having a baby like any day now, so that’s a huge win for all!

Toasts, man. They’ll get ya.

This photo is really special to me. Someday, Corinne’s grandkids are gonna have this photo hanging on their wall and will tell their friends about how their grandma lived in New York City during the revival and wrote a best-selling novel. Excited for that.

2021-01-08_0065.jpg

Guess who else is having a baby soon… THESE GUYS.

Abbi + Noah got engaged and Noah cried and all her friends cheered and it was truly the best.

One of my favorite weddings of the year. Pictured: first look with his bride after dating for yearrrrs, the vintage Camero that Keely’s dad fixed up just for their wedding day as a getaway car, and Tyler with his 3 brothers behind him as Keely walked down the aisle. PRECIOUS memories.

Bond’s groomsmen all received a furry sheep robe as a gift and then he accidently had a first look with them. You can’t make this stuff up people.

Also, 2 of my all-time favorite photos of parents on wedding days below that.

Straight-up JOY from these two, every single time.

2021-01-08_0080.jpg

First COVID wedding. The show goes on, y’all. Obviously not how they had imagined it, but their families worked so hard to make this happen and you couldn’t help but smile at the simplicity + intimacy of the day. One that I won’t forget for a long time.

Big wedding turned intimate backyard ceremony, officiated by Becca’s dad, with their roommates watching from other side of the neighbor’s fence. Didn’t matter to these two and I’m convinced they experienced double the joy because of it. Couldn’t believe how many people were on that Zoom call watching them make vows to one another and then what seemed like the entire city of Tyler, TX drove in surprise them with posters and confetti. Felt really honored to hug Becca + Luke on this day and left feeling like family.

Faith, in her parent’s driveway, about to drive over to her wedding ceremony. Below that, you’re seeing her brothers walking down the aisle, and a photo of her SWEET grandma that passed away later this year. That photo is so special. And below that, you’re looking at Faith’s brother doing a celebratory dance after fighting the wind to light every single candle for their backyard dinner celebration! Slay.

Last backyard wedding of the year — for me at least lol. Guy with his tongue out? My parent’s best friend from college. Also the officiant of this wedding. Ya love to see it.

First time seeing yourself as a bride hits different. So does your friend showing up with iced lattes for your bridals! Friendship at its finest.

2021-01-08_0053.jpg

Does it get any better than this!? Doubt it.

2021-01-08_0077.jpg

The most worshipful ceremony I’ve ever gotten to capture.

I’ve never posted this photo anywhere, but it feels really important to me.

2021-01-08_0049.jpg

A gift from her groom (his mom’s diamond earrings that she thought she’d be “borrowing” for the day!) and the moments right after Ty + Katelyn said “I Do”. Sweetness.

All I can think when I see these two photos is “YES”

John’s face just makes me giggle.

Some summer bridals. Reasons I love these: composition, colors, SUBJECT. Get it girls. NOTE: Second photo is of Katie practicing her bouquet toss because she was so nervous hahaha

My lovely mother + her best friend from college, my “Aunt” Schell. Michelle was getting married for the first time this year and we thought she needed some proper bridal photos. During her session, Aunt Schell suggested that I make a new section of my website for “mature brides”. HAHAHA What she doesn’t realize is that she looks like she’s 20 (hair! back muscles!)

One other sweet thing. Towards the end of the session, she asked me to take a photo of her praying, and then started to recount her prayers for me, 25 years ago, when my mom was having a hard time getting pregnant. And there I was, taking bridal portraits for her 25 years later. God is kind and I’m just happy to be here. Literally.

My DEAR friends on their wedding day. Devin had THE. BEST. first look reaction I’ve seen to date. Keep scrolling for another “first look” of these two ;)

Some cool guys. I admire them both.

My brother and my sister getting engaged to two of my favorite people in the whole world. Thank goodness!

Country boys x Weddings

There is only one couple that I would take this set of photos for and it’s these two. Enjoy.

Peace signs, rainbows, and one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken. The sky on Rachel + Hank’s wedding day displayed over and over that God understood + cared for them.

Summertime Tahoe trip! Bought a Fujifilm X100F and gave it a spin. Also 2 of my favorite engagement photos of my favorite people! Majjjjor unintentional “Folklore” vibes.

Everyone’s got something to celebrate! Bethany + Scott are getting married and it’s Liv’s first day of grad school. WAHOO!

2021-01-08_0092.jpg

When Tori glanced up to seeing her Dad + brothers waiting to see her at the bottom of the stairs, it was game over.

In other news, THIS LONGHORN + THESE BRIDESMAIDS. P.S. I commandeered my mom into being the coordinator at this wedding. Honestly thinking she should switch careers.

“We just like REALLY did something” - Blake Nelson, after shooting this wedding with me

Also, a moment to appreciate Reagan + Trav trying to have an intimate moment of exchanging gifts around a corner and the bridesmaids just realllly inserting themselves hahaha

Taking bridals for one of my dearest friends was a gift I’ll always treasure. Emily is what some would call “sunshine” and her bridals put it on display. I was thrilled :*)

Becca + Luke’s epic wedding reception, starring Becca’s WHITE SEQUINED JUMPSUIT ARE YOU KIDDDDING ME.

Additionally, we’ve got the most legit nephew squad of all time + Shelby and Drew laughing at something that I won’t be writing on this blog post :))

Pandemic-era family photos. Who knows how many hours the Hill boys spent on this swing in 2020.

2021-01-08_0076.jpg

After a dramatic turn of events (*see: military), the Lofgren wedding was pushed up several months and planned in grand total of 2 seconds (actually more like 6 weeks, but STILL). Shelby called to see if I could switch to their new date, and LOW AND BEHOLD — it was my only free weekend in a matter of months. #thanksGod

Stand out moments include Shelby’s bridal cowboy hat, teary Matron of Honor speech (*see: Fireball), party hands all day long, and Shelby deciding once we were done with portraits that I needed a couple of photos as well (classic Shelby. Always considering others more than herself. Geez). So she and Colin began to repeat back all of the prompts I had given them and it 2% felt like they were mocking me and 98% felt like the most loving moment. haha I love these two. They’ll change the world by the way that they love.

BRIDALS FOR MY NEW SISSY. I LOVE YOU TG!!!

2021-01-08_0061.jpg

It was realllllly tough trying to get any good pictures of Craig + Emily :/

2021-01-08_0007.jpg

The trip of the YEAR born out of a half-kidding instagram story asking if anyone wanted me to take their engagement photos in Tahoe. It’s always been my dream to see the trees when they turn yellow and oh BOY it lived up to the hype. I’ll never be able to communicate the awe + wonder + genuine joy that embodied this trip, but these photos are my best shot at it.

Remember that couple with the really sweet First Look earlier in this post? Well this is their other really sweet First Look, but this time with the mountains. We woke up when the sun was rising and led Dev + Jo all the way down to the water with their eyes closed. I’ll never forget it.

One more important note about this trip: I was introduced to Sweet + Spicy Sriracha sauce at Chick-fil-A and I’ll honestly never be the same :*)

A biiiig whoopin shout-out to my pal Nate Shorman for this one. Got to shoot a rehearsal dinner in the TX Hill Country and Nate helped me get this insannnee shot of the sky that night while everyone was around the fire and enjoying time together. There’s hardly any edit on this. Like what you’re seeing is for real. Nate is cool. God is cooler.

Piper made the cut. How could she not!? H*ck, Piper would’ve made my Top 10.

2021-01-08_0010.jpg

Someday I will publish a book for my daughter called “Portraits of My Dearest Friends” where I will tell their stories and these two photos will probably be in that book.

2021-01-08_0093.jpg

After looking through this post, mom insisted that I have a photo of people wearing masks. Yes. Really good idea mom!

B+W photo below is two moms trying to get their children to smile for a photo at this wedding. The photo that made this post is obviously not of their children… it is of them. Gotcha.

2021-01-11_0013.jpg

Don’t mind me messin around in Virginia to FINALLY get these two married after what seemed like 16 reschedules (again, *see: military). It was probably unfair how much fun they had and Bailee + I got to be around for the whole shabang! Helena + Chris and their families are a wildly good time and I am significantly more cultured because of my time with them LOL

Daniel + Nicole won our Mini Session giveaway this fall and based on the results, you would’ve thought the whole thing was rigged. Hi Callie.

2021-01-08_0017.jpg

Henry is rockin the old-man cardigan and that pic on the right? That’s my dog-niece, Hallie Berry Jones :*)

2021-01-08_0084.jpg

Meg Ryan getting engaged in Central Park or Jordan at Lakeside Park? You tell me.

2021-01-11_0014.jpg

The Tuckers, coming January 2021!

I can’t explain to you why I like this one, I just doooo ok?

Can you say NEATure!?

One last thing, really for my own enjoyment. All the photos (or at least the ones I could find) of me and the people that let me take their photos! My friends!

Love you guys. Thank you for trusting me and allowing me the front row seat to some of the most precious moments of your lives. Forever grateful and will be available when you all inevitably have children and dogs!
